Plot[]

Prior to the withdrawal exam[]

The opening scene of the episode (post the introduction) depicts the team in the aftermath of the Coach's announcement, reflecting on it. A flashback ensues which depicts the coach's announcement, specifically detailing the nature and format of said announcement. He outlines a withdrawal examination will occur allowing those who no longer wish to belong to the team to withdraw, yet fulfil the conditions of there contracts. The exam itself will be a PK match, whereby those wishing to participate will be placed in a one on one scenario with a Goalkeeper, in an attempt to score. the coach proceeds to state each participant will be allocated with attempts and opportunities to do so. However, the coach exclaims that only in the instance that they miss the five designated shots will they be permitted to withdraw. With the addition of the above there won't be a Goalkeeper, implying failure is almost a possibility due to the circumstances. In the instance failure doesn't occur the members will have to attend statutory team training. Concluding the revelation (and therefore the flashback) by stating those who wish to remain in the team are exempt from participating.

The team continue to deliberate the coaches withdrawal exam. Tetsukado announces his candidacy, wishing to partake in the exam, stating he'll happily be tossed aside in response to Shindou's statement and that he never exhibited an interest in soccer or sport generally, referring to Tenma's earlier comment. Minaho outlines Tetsukado's motives for enlisting in the team and therefore the conditions of his contract, attempting to purchase his Father a new fishing boat, his prior one being damaged in a storm. With the addition of Tetsukado, Manabe also declares his candidacy on the grounds that the exam will fulfil the conditions of his contract, thus making there presence on the team almost obsolete. On the basis of Manabe's justification, Minaho also announces his candidacy.

Due to the above three additional people announce there candidacy (Konoha, Kusaka and Sakura). konoha announces it on the grounds that her presence is irrelevant regardless of whether she's attached to the team or not, Kusaka on the grounds that the sport simply isn't him and Sakura declaring her candidacy on the grounds that she intends to flourish and thrive in rhythmic gymnastics, although at her own admission she's acknowledged the fun in football due to Tenma, gymnastics simply taking precedence. Both Ibuki and Matatagi reject candidacy. Ibuki makes it apparent he's declining not due to an affinity or interest in the sport but due to Shindou's estimation of him. Matatagi declining on the grounds that his presence pleases his brothers and he's keen to pursue it further.

The above implies that seven members of Inazuma japan will partake in the exam (konoha, Minaho, Manabe, Tetskuado, Kusaka and Sakura) with five members (Ibuki, Tenma, Shindou, Tsurugi and Matatagi) declining and therefore remaining in the team.

The withdrawal exam[]

The exam begins with a conversation between the coach and Mizukawa. Mizukawa outlines that the consequence of the exam will physically cause Japan to be unable to partake and continue to advance in the FFI, having a difficulty understanding the coaches thought process on occasions. The coach insists on silence and that she simply watch.

They demonstrate Tetskuado preparing for the exam in the stadium's changing rooms among the other male participants. A flashback ensues depicting Tetskuado in an altercation with someone attempting to steal a woman's purse. Minaho identifies that Tetskuado subconsciously clenches his right wrist and that he's familiar with both his injury itself and the circumstances surrounding it, implying the earlier flashback is the source and origin of the injury. Tetskuado refuses to elaborate or discuss the matter, Tenma intervenes during the confrontation, attempting to make a last ditch effort for those partaking in the exam to withdraw there candidacy. He fails, the male participants approaching the pitch.

As the participants approach the pitch they discuss the possibilities in the aftermath of the exam and experience a discomfort, the discomfort being the presence of audience, spectators and television cameras. Confirming what surprised and startled Shindou when he was depicted entering the pitch earlier. The participants query the presence, Shindou revealing its the coaches means of illustrating there present condition. This is confirmed in a later introductory speech by the coach, describing the event which will unfold as a exhibition of magnificent shooting by Japan's elite. Emphasising that there the pride of Japan.

The coach's intent is for the withdrawal agreements participants to feel almost obliged to shoot in the presence of spectators, missing not being viable in the PK match, especially one of this nature. Minaho outlines how it could endanger and jeopardise there future prospects, placing emphasis on Sakura an individual who's aspiring to be an Olympian.

Tetskuado announces that he'll be the first participant. He proceeds to take his first shot assuring himself that he has nothing to lose and despite the coach's intent he'll prosper and fail the exam, failing to score his first shot. On his second attempt he invites the audience to laugh, due to it being irrelevant, his place being alongside his Father at sea, failing to score on a second and additional occasion. Like the above he assures himself that the audience's comment are of no object failing to score on a third occasion. Tetskuado fails on a fourth occasion. He prepares to take his fifth shot, acknowledging the audience's comments he reflects on his prior experiences in boxing. He recalls his motives concluding he has nothing to lose by failing. he recalls a proverb his former boxing coach recited ('if your a man then stand up to the punch's without running away) and the sensation he attained from the Korea game (which the audience caused him to recall) . He proceeds to score his fifth and final shot, thus failing the withdrawal exam, acknowledging that its better to oppose and face adversity than flee from it.

Due to Tetskuado's actions the other participants proceed to score like Tetskuado also failing the exam and ratifying there position and presence on the team. Tenma expresses his gratitude to Tetskuado for encouraging and incentivising the team, Tetskuado naturally rejecting the notion. The coach highlights the importance of supportive words from spectators and friends alike, being reflected in his closing and concluding speech, outlining the value, importance and integrity of supporters to the team, expressing his gratitude.
