- Not to be confused with Focus Battle.
Focus (フォーカス, Fōkasu), also known as Focus Battles in the English localization, is a game mechanic introduced in Inazuma Eleven Eiyuutachi no Victory Road. It is one of the Limited Area Battles (
Info[]
Focus is a type of command battle that begins when the player in possession with the ball collides with a player from the opposing team. The attacking player possessing the ball must attempt to break past the defending player, who is attempting to intercept them. If the attacker is able to get past the defender, the attacker wins the battle. Likewise, if the attacker collides with the defender (or their arms whilst active), then the defender wins.
Upon winning a battle, the team is rewarded with Tension, and up to three item drops, which can include one Hero Token, Spirit, and/or Super Tactics.
During Focus, either player's AT and DF values will affect their respective hissatsu techniques. Additionally, the length of the defending player's arms are affected by their DF stat compared to the attacker's AT stat - the length will increase if the DF stat is higher, or decrease if AT is higher, with the affect increasing based on the difference in stats.
Controls[]
Attacking[]
- Breakthrough (突破, Toppa): Allows the player to side step in the direction pointed in using the left-stick. If pointed forward, the player will attempt to break through the defender, at the angle held on the left-stick.
- Pass (パス, Pasu): After a couple of seconds, the attacker may pass the ball to a teammate to end Focus. As with standard passing, the attacker may aim their pass using the left-stick. Ending the battle in this way does not grant any Tension or item drops, but does bypass the effect of the Win Keep Super Tactics.
- Dash (ダッシュ, Dasshu): The attacking player can perform a dash attack whilst the right trigger is held down, allowing them to sprint forward in the direction pointed on the left-stick. Unlike passing, winning Focus this was still grants the usual rewards. Although dash attacks scatter any opponents collided with during standard play, running into the defending player while dashing during Focus will result in a loss for the attacker.
- Dribble: If the attacker possesses a
hissatsu technique, it can be used to win Focus, provided the attacker has enough Tension. Additionally, if the defending player uses a
hissatsu technique, the attacker can respond with a Dribble hissatsu technique. Ending the battle in this way does not grant any Tension, but does bypass the effect of the Win Keep Super Tactics.
- Long Shoot: If the attacker possesses a Long Shoot hissatsu technique, it can be used to shoot on goal during Focus, provided the attacker has enough Tension. Additionally, Shoot Chains and Shoot Blocks may occur for each teammate and opponent in the shot's path possessing a
or Shot Block hissatsu technique respectively. Ending the battle in this way does not grant any Tension or item drops, nor does it accumulate any Technique Combo, but does bypass the effect of the Win Keep Super Tactics.
- Power Charge (パワーチャージ, Pawā Chājī): If the defending player uses a
hissatsu technique, the attacker can respond with a Power Charge. Whilst not costing any Tension to use, it has a higher foul rate than standard hissatsu techniques.
Defending[]
- Defend (守備, Shubi): Activates the defender's arms, allowing them to block the attacking player should they collide with them. This effect is indicated by the defender's body glowing during its duration.
- Step (ステップ, Suteppu): Allows the player to side step in the direction pointed in using the left-stick. When used, it activates the defender's arms for the duration of the step. The length of the arm in the direction of the step is also increased, whilst the opposite arm's length is decreased.
- Block: If the defender possesses a
hissatsu technique, it can be used to win Focus, provided the defender has enough Tension. Additionally, if the attacking player uses a
hissatsu technique, the defender can respond with a Block hissatsu technique. Ending the battle in this way does not grant any Tension, but does bypass the effect of the Win Keep Super Tactics.
- Power Block (パワーブロック, Pawā Burokku): If the attacking player uses a
hissatsu technique, the defender can respond with a Power Block. Whilst not costing any Tension to use, it has a higher foul rate than standard hissatsu techniques.
Technique Combo[]
When Focus is won with the use of a hissatsu technique, the winning team's Technique Combo (技巧コンボ, Gikō Konbo; dub: Technical Combo) is increased by one stage, to a maximum of three. For each stage of Technical Combo acquired, the AT of the team's next shot is increased, and if a technique is used, its Tension cost is decreased. Technical Combo is lost if the opposition team gains possession of the ball, or once a shot has been taken.
