In Inazuma Eleven GO he initially appeared under the guise of the antagonist Ishido Shuuji (イシド・シュウジ, Ishido Shūji), the Holy Emperor of Fifth Sector and coach of Seidouzan, but later revealed his true identity and motives. Appearance

Gouenji has spiky light-blonde hair, reminiscent of flames, slightly tanned skin and dark brown eyes. His casual outfit consists of an orange jacket over a white hoodie, brown pants and red sneakers.

When wearing the Raimon uniform, he wears orange socks instead of the standard white ones, and he has a habit of raising the collar of any soccer shirt he wears.

In an artwork of Gouenji in the Inazuma Eleven game, he was shown to be wearing a hoop earring in his right ear, however he has never been shown to be wearing an earring in the anime (apart from when he was acting as Ishido in the Inazuma Eleven GO series) or in any of the other games.

As an adult, Gouenji has straight hair. In Inazuma Eleven GO Chrono Stone, he simply keeps his hair tied in a low ponytail, while in Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy he keeps it loose. He also has a darker skin tone.

Ishido Shuuji

As Ishido Shuuji, his hair has azure highlights in it and is kept loose. On his left ear are two pearl earrings, one green and one violet. His outfit consists of a red suit, a white shirt, a gray scarf, and gray combat boots worn over his pants. He also wears two necklaces, a gold one around his neck and the other, which has orange and green beads, over his shirt.

Personality

Gouenji is cool and calm in most situations, and capable of quick thinking. He cares deeply for his sister and has a strong passion for soccer.

In the manga, he is portrayed as more mysterious, and is easily annoyed by Endou Mamoru's attempts to recruit him into the soccer club. Even after joining, at first, he wants to quit because the club isn't functioning well.

In GO, when he was revealed to be Ishido Shuuji, his personality has drastically changed, he starts with having no remorse for controlling soccer. He states that soccer cannot be brought back anymore and he doesn't seem to care for his old friends, teammates and those who love playing soccer. He also started having the "sly" smile while watching the matches in the Holy Road tournament. Though, some of his characteristics like cool, calm and serious remained. He also starts to deny his past identity of being "Gouenji Shuuya" and states his name is Ishido Shuuji when he was confronted by Endou. He does have some guilt in controlling soccer as shown during the series.

In Galaxy, Gouenji is shown to be very serious in his job as chairman of the Nippon Shounen Soccer Kyoukai. He has a close relationship with Kidou Yuuto, as they were friends in the past. He is not easily persuaded, as both Shindou and the vice-coach for Inazuma Japan asked Gouenji to change the coach, Kuroiwa Ryuusei, but he denied.

In chapter 48 of the HonoSuto! ~Gouenji no Hitorigoto~ manga, a fortuneteller notes that Gouenji has the habit to think a lot and to keep his feelings bottled up to not bother others. This, however, instead creates problems. She also notes that he's thoughtful but does not communicate well. Furthermore she notes that he does sometimes not say enough, which results in not being understood or not getting his feelings across.

Plot

Background

Even in his childhood, Gouenji was shown to be a talented player. His parents would often come to his games to cheer for him, saying that he had a talent for soccer and that they were tremendously proud of it. However, after his mother's death, his father, Gouenji Katsuya became a completely different person. Despite his pride for his son in the past, his father wanted Gouenji to quit soccer and become a doctor like himself and has been arguing about this issue with Gouenji ever since.

Before the finals in the Football Frontier — a year before the series' event — which was a match between Kidokawa Seishuu and Teikoku Gakuen, Gouenji's younger sister, Yuuka, she had become a victim of an accident and was in a coma ever since. Due to this, his father's condition grew worse. Yuuka was then hospitalized in Inazuma General Hospital, where Gouenji's father worked.

Ever since the accident, Gouenji thought that if he hadn't played soccer, the accident wouldn't have happened to Yuuka, and wondered how he can simply relax and play soccer when she is suffering. Gouenji keeps an amulet made by Yuuka, transferred to Raimon, and swore that until she wakes up, he wouldn't play soccer.

Season 1

Gouenji's sister, Yuuka, was in a coma because of Kageyama's interference to stop him from playing against Teikoku Gakuen. He keeps an amulet made by her and vowed to never play soccer again. He first appears when Endou was training with the Inazuma KFC. After seeing a punk spit on the ball and then kicking it to the direction of Kisaragi Mako, he intervenes, shooting the ball back which hit the punk's face. But then he was struck by Endou's "never give up" attitude telling him that his sister would have wanted him to play soccer the most, he then regains his passion for the game. He changes his promise to become the champion of the Football Frontier. He is firstly not accepted by Someoka, but later, when he sees Gouenji working hard to complete Inazuma Otoshi, his respect for him as a teammate and the ace striker of Raimon grows, and Someoka does not accept anybody other than Gouenji as Raimon's ace striker, as it is seen when he does not accept Fubuki as Raimon's new ace striker after Gouenji left the team in season 2. In this season he was known as the legendary striker.

Season 2

In season 2, he was kicked out of the team after he got distracted in a match against Aliea Gakuen by Coach Hitomiko. Later, Raimon heard rumors of the "Flame Striker" somewhere in Okinawa and traveled there to find him, hoping that he is Gouenji. He is seen hiding in the shadows watching Raimon practice, and even saw the confrontation with Burn and Gran. Later on, in the match against Epsilon Kai, Gouenji views the match in a disguise (an orange and black hood) and it is shown that he and Hijikata Raiden know each other. Later on in the match, three mysterious men try to take Gouenji away but he tricks them with the help of Onigawara. He runs back to the match and rejoins the team at the last minute. The Raimon Eleven are delighted that he returned to them. Together once again, they finally beat Epsilon Kai with Gouenji's Fire Tornado and with his new hissatsu, Bakunetsu Storm.

Season 3

In season 3, he was a candidate to join Japan's national team, Inazuma Japan, and was placed in Team B, Kidou Yuuto's team. During the selection match, he made his team first goal with Bakunetsu Storm. Later, he and some of his teammates were chosen by Coach Kudou, to represent Japan. Later, he was almost out of the team again before the finals, because his father wanted him to study in Germany and become a doctor. However, he was able to show his father how much he loves soccer and wants to stay with the rest of the team, as he and Toramaru bring out Tiger Storm. He makes a new hissatsu with Hiroto and Toramaru between the match with The Empire, even though they lose with the score of 2-1. Later he followed the Kidou's team into the depths of hell to the Demon's Gate, in an effort to save Haruna from Makai Gundan Z.

In the match of Inazuma Japan vs Unicorn, Gouenji used Bakunetsu Screw to try and score, but it failed against Billy Rapid's Flash Upper because Domon Asuka used Volcano Cut V2 to weaken the shot. However, in the second half, he used it again to score the final and winning goal for Inazuma Japan using Bakunetsu Screw.

Then afterward when Inazuma Japan was fighting against The Kingdom, he scored the second point for Inazuma Japan, along with Someoka and Hiroto in a chain shoot consisting of their individual hissatsu. He scored a goal with Toramaru using Tiger Storm against Team Garshield. He, along with Toramaru and Endou scored the winning goal for Inazuma Japan against Little Gigant in the finals using Jet Stream which broke through Rococo's Tamashii The Hand G2.

In episode 126, he graduated from Raimon, and when it was Endou's turn to receive the diploma, Gouenji along with the rest of Raimon was seen crying because they were about to go their separate ways.

Then in episode 127, they had one last graduation match with each other, which ended in both groups not scoring a goal, since they were all equally matched. All of them listened to Endou's last speech, and promised that they'll keep on playing soccer from Endou's word that he said "Let's play soccer!" to which everyone happily agreed on.

Inazuma Eleven GO

Prior to the events of Inazuma Eleven GO, Gouenji appears in a flashback taking place during the time he was hiding from Aliea Gakuen. In it, he saves Matsukaze Tenma's life by kicking a soccer ball at some wood planks that were falling on the young boy and destroying them. This was the catalysts for Tenma to become passionate about soccer and Raimon, as the ball left behind by Gouenji had Raimon's emblem hand-drawn on it, proving how much he missed his team.

The very first scene of both the game and the anime shows Gouenji (though purposefully having his appearance hidden) vowing, after displaying some conflict about it, to "control soccer", setting him up as the main antagonist of the story.

His appearance is later revealed after Kuro no Kishidan forfeits the game against Raimon due to Shindou Takuto releasing his Keshin. Now calling himself Ishido Shuuji, the "Holy Emperor" at the head of Fifth Sector, Gouenji shows interest in Shindou's recent awakening, which is implied to make him valuable and avoiding the end of Raimon's soccer club.

When Raimon advanced to the semi-finals, they were originally supposed to play against Aoba, another participant in the Holy Road tournament. However, Ishido switched Aoba's place with Teikoku, fore sighting that Teikoku would crush Raimon. Despite this, Raimon won the match and advanced to the finals.

He was seen watching Raimon and Kaiou Gakuen's match at the end of episode 20.

In episode 22, he was seen in Holy Road opening ceremony making a speech.

In episode 24, he was confronted by Endou Mamoru at Fifth Sector's base, where it is confirmed that Gouenji is actually Ishido Shuuji. Gouenji, however, denies his old identity as well as Endou's offer to help him.

In episode 27, he's shown to be watching the match of Raimon and Hakuren when Seki was switched into the field and started to play rough.

In episode 29, he's shown to be talking to Aphrodi but it's unknown what were they talking about, but then he's shown smiling after his talk with Aphrodi. He watches the match of Raimon and Kidokawa Seishuu. In a flashback of Aphrodi, it's seen that they were talking about Water World Stadium.

In episode 31, after Raimon won the match, Aphrodi raised his head so he can look at him but it's shown that he had left his seat already.

In the episode 33, he is seen watching Raimon's members. He came to the hospital and had a talk with Taiyou about the revolution and the Holy Road.

In the episode 34, he was seen watching Raimon match against Genei Gakuen, then he smiled. In the episode 36, he was seen talking to Tenma and saved him again. After this, Tenma has finally realized that Gouenji was the one who saved him 10 years ago. In the episode 37, he was seen talking with Taiyou about Arakumo Gakuen's next game, where Gouenji says that Amemiya can play.

In the episode 38 and episode 39, he is seen watching the 1/2 final opposing Raimon and Arakumo Gakuen with Senguuji, Toramaru and Yamato. He is seen smiling when he saw Matei Gryphon. At the end of the match, he smiled at Taiyou. In episode 40, he was seen training Tsurugi.

In episode 41, he is seen talking to Saginuma, he is the one who is coaching over Seidouzan since he is their original coach. In episode 42, it was said by Tsurugi that Seidouzan's formation in order to seal the opponent passes could only be coordinated by a striker like Gouenji.

As shown in episode 44, he is seen talking to Senguuji about when he first met him he also had a flashback, he is seen to be happy when he saw Hibiki giving a speech about "true soccer" coming back. At the end of the episode, it is seen that Endou as usual told him let's play soccer again, to which Gouenji actually agreed and then he along with Endou is seen shaking hands together.

Inazuma Eleven GO Chrono Stone

In episode 1, it was commented by Tenma that, after Holy Road, Gouenji created a soccer education program to teach kids from all Japan how to play soccer and that this is the motive why he was traveling around the country. Later, when Alpha travels back in time where Gouenji saves Tenma, and Tenma sees how Gouenji kicked the ball but Alpha stops the shoot which made Gouenji unable to save Tenma from injuries.

Gouenji appeared in GO form in episode 7. He met with the remaining Raimon members. He knew about El Dorado and what happened to Endou. He then revealed that he owns a time bracelet (similar to the one Tsurugi Yuuichi was wearing in episode 3), given to him by someone only known as "Helper X". He suggested that the Raimon players could practice at God Eden, in order to master the Keshin Armed and to fight against Protocol Omega 2.0 and release Endou.

In episode 18, it was said by Nishiki that Gouenji is delaying the demolition of Raimon's soccer club. Later in the same episode he appeared at the Raimon soccer club, bringing the artifact needed to travel to Jeanne's era and to tell to the club that El Dorado's doesn't want to banish soccer only, but eliminate it by the most ruthless way. He also says that the ones who still like soccer are being attacked one after another by people's that are being controlled by Protocol Omega 3.0.

He appeared again in episode 22, where he brought the artifact to travel to the Three Kingdoms era, Koumei's scripture, to Daisuke. It's also said by Taiyou that Gouenji told him about Raimon's mission to bring back real soccer and that is his motive for joining Raimon.

In episode 39, he became the coach of El Dorado Team 03, and chose Tenma as a captain.

In episode 44, he was shocked when he saw Helper X standing at SARU's side, as he supposedly gave his Time Bracelet in order to protect the soccer. Gouenji then asked himself if Supporter X was acting as a member from El Dorado all this time in order to collect information to evolve Second Stage Children even more. Gouenji was later shocked, much like the other members, when he discovered that Fei was actually the captain from Feida's third team, Garu. After he scored a goal with Bouncer Rabbit Gouenji explained to Aoi that that should be Fei's true power.

Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy

Before the events of Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy

Bitway Ozrock came down to Earth from space and told him about the Grand Celesta Galaxy tournament. Bitway said to Gouenji that Earth needed to find a team that could participate in the tournament, otherwise, he would seal Earth away; in which he proved he could do, as he sealed the moon with just a soccer ball.

Gouenji, who had to accept this 'offer' otherwise Earth would be sealed away, must have told Kuroiwa Ryuusei of this. Kuroiwa then created the Football Frontier International Vision 2 to gather the best players that could defeat the aliens, and that team turned out to be Inazuma Japan.

Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy

He appeared in episode 1, watching the match of Inazuma Japan vs. Teikoku Gakuen. After the match, he walked to Kidou Yuuto, in which he stated that Kuroiwa Ryuusei resembled a lot to a person he had known before; Kageyama Reiji.

He appeared in episode 4, talking to Shindou Takuto and the coach for Inazuma Japan. Shindou was telling Gouenji that his coach Kuroiwa Ryuusei, was doing a bad job as their coach, for example, they only have eleven players, in which he thinks they should have sixteen, 5 as subs in-case someone was to get injured. But Gouenji just said that he trusts Kuroiwa. Then the vice-coach came in, in an angry mood, saying why did Gouenji along with other (unknown) people select Kuroiwa as a coach for Inazuma Japan and that if Kuroiwa carries on, he is going to try and take over the soccer world again. But Gouenji said that he had no intentions in changing the coach because Kuroiwa knows in every detail, "both darkness and light".

Inazuma Eleven Ares no Tenbin

Gouenji first appeared in Kozoumaru's flashback in episode 3. While Kozoumaru was chasing a thug who had stolen a lady's purse, Gouenji stopped him with Fire Tornado. He found out that Kozoumaru wasn't a good defender, no matter how hard he had been training and advised him to look on the opposite side. Since that day, Kozoumaru became a big fan of Gouenji and started to play as a forward.

Before Kidokwa Seishuu's match against Seishou Gakuen, he was being interviewed by Tominaga Jun. Gouenji said that Haizaki was both their strong point and their weak point because unlike Kidokawa's strong teamwork, Haizaki's preference to work alone prevented his team from having one as well. Haizaki saw his interview on TV after he went out of the hospital where he visited Akane and got annoyed by Gouenji's words. Haizaki then came to Seishou Gakuen's clubroom, where the members were discussing strategies for their next match. Kidou told them they had to be careful at Gouenji, but Haizaki refused to believe he would be that bad. Much to Haizaki's surprise and dismay, he discovered he had to play as a goalkeeper.

The match started and Gouenji shot towards the goal, using Fire Tornado. Haizaki froze when the shot came towards his goal and was unable to catch it. Fortunately, two of Seishou's defenders stopped it. Kidou complimented Gouenji, saying that he expected no less from him. Gouenji told him that Kidokawa's teamwork wasn't always that good and he had a flashback which showed him after returning to his old team as a reinforcement committee. The Mukata triplets still believed they were better forwards, so they requested Gouenji to have a 3 to 3 contest to see who is better. Gouenji chose Hoshino and Mito in his team, two first-years from Kidokawa's second team. The Mukata triplets thought he was intentionally trying to lose since he chose weak people in his team. However, Gouenji's team managed to win due to their better teamwork than the brothers'. They accepted their loss and after that, they started to work better with their teammates, which is what Gouenji was trying to achieve in the first place.

He combined his Fire Tornado with the brothers' Triangle Z to create the override hissatsu, Bakunetsu Storm, which scored the first goal for his team. After Haizaki let in another goal, shot by the brothers' Triangle Z, he left the goal and ran to the opposing team's goal to try to score, but he got stopped by Nishikaki. Seeing that Seishou's goal was empty, Gouenji tried to score with Fire Tornado, but all of Seishou's defenders manage to stop it after combining their forces. He scored another goal with Fire tornado after he stole the ball from Sasotsuka Eiji in the second half, but in the end, Kidokawa lost with a score of 3-4.

He was later seen watching Inakuni Raimon's matches against Zeus and Tonegawa Tousen together with Kazemaru. They were joined by Kidou, Endou and Sakanoue to watch the match against Outei Tsukinomiya in the finale.

Inazuma Eleven Orion no Kokuin

In the first episode Gouenji met with Endou and Kidou at the stadium where the members of Inazuma Japan were announced. They were very excited about the upcoming ceremony and were talking about Raimon’s reinforcement committee members whose work raised the level of Japan's soccer. Later when he was sitting at the stands with his teammates, Gouenji was wondering who Zhao Jinyun would choose. It turned out that he was selected as one of the forwards for the team. His interest aroused Ichihoshi Mitsuru who played on an overseas team. Later Gouenji gathered with his teammates in Inazuma Japan's uniform and celebrated their selection. The next day during the first training, Inazuma Japan was surprised with an unexpected visitor who was the captain of the Spanish team Barcelona Orb, Clario Orvan. The fact that he was going to face alone against the 18 players, shocked the team even more. Clario easily passed all of them, one by one and score a goal with his technique Diamond Ray. Inazuma Japan was overwhelmed by what happened but Clario stated that their level raised. He revealed that he saw one Japan's player whose technique astonished him and now he wanted to back to his country to practice more. When the team seemed to lose their fighting spirit, Gouenji stated with a smile that Clario's intention wasn't to scare them but see how serious they were.

During the next episode first match in the FFI preliminaries Inazuma Japan played against South Korea's team Red Bison. Gouenji with Haizaki was main forwards in this match. Right after the beginning, Inazuma Japan began to attack but Korea reacted quickly and steal the ball from them. They attempted to score but when all their actions failed, Red Bison started to play rough. Haizaki was upset about their dirty play and Gouenji explained that it was Korea's strategy to take away Japan's composure. After Red Bison scored their first goal before Park Ji-won obstructed Endou's view, Japan stood shocked and in disbelief. Gouenji admitted that Korea's striker wasn't just ordinary. When Japan figured out how to avoid their attacks, it was time to use Juu to Gou tactic. The team got through the opponent's defense and Gouenji presented his spectacular shot Last Resort thanks which Inazuma Japan scored their first goal. Gouenji explained to Kazemaru and Hiura Kirina that he's been training day by day to compete with the world and this shot was the answer that his soccer has given. It turned out that it was Gouenji who amazed Clario Orvan during the practice, made him appreciate Japan's soccer. When Gouenji intended to score once again, he got injured his leg after he was blinded. Japan's players gathered around him asking if he was alright. Gouenji admitted that something blinded him for a second and now he wasn't sure if he was able to continue this match. With the help of Ichihoshi, he left the field and sit at the bench. After the first half of the match ended, Kidou kept asking Gouenji about how he felt. Gouenji stated with a smile that he wasn't a doctor to know how serious was his wound. He told Kidou that he couldn't see what happened on the field but something shone into his eyes just for that moment, making Kidou wondering if the opponent's team was cheating. Gouenji agreed that something strange was with this match. Kidou was seriously worried about Gouenji and confessed to him that he wanted to go to the world with him and Endou, he didn't want to lose him now as well.

Gouenji was hoping that his injuries wouldn't interfere with him playing in the future matches. Ichihoshi came to him clearly absorbed by his state and brought him another bag with ice cubes. When the match resumed Kira Hiroto replaced Gouenji as a forward, next to Haizaki. Soon Inazuma Japan scored their second goal after Inamori Asuto’s shot. When Hiroto managed to avoid fatal injury after he was blinded, Gouenji said it was a good job avoiding that. The match ended with Inazuma Japan winning with a score 3-2. While the team celebrated their success in their locker room, Gouenji's wound got dressed and the man from the medical section told him it would definitely need time to be healed. Endou came to him and ensured that they would try their best until he came back. Gouenji stated that the team would be definitely able to handle it and would continue their way to the victory. Ichihoshi once again offered him help and accompanied him on a journey to the hospital. Sometime later Kidou visited Gouenji in the hospital as well. He stated that his injuries weren't so bad as he thought earlier, although it would be rather difficult for him to return for the Asia preliminaries. Gouenji looked at the picture of his sister Gouenji Yuuka and Kidou said that she had to be really worried about him. Gouenji admitted once again that there was something specious in the tournament. The fact that Gouenji got injured after a simple collision didn't make sense for Kidou either. Gouenji confirmed that he saw the light at the same moment when he was knocked down, making Kidou wondering if he was intentionally blinded by someone. Later the other members of Inazuma Japan came to visit Gouenji, laughing and joking. Goujin Tetsunosuke stated that he would replace Gouenji as an ace striker until he healed, causing the team to feel embarrassed. Asuto and Sakanoue Noboru agreed that in fact names Gouenji and Goujin are very similar but Goujin got irritated hearing that, stating he didn't mean that. Everybody laughed and the meeting passed off in a pleasant atmosphere.

During episode 17 when the match with Chinese team Soccer Zatsugidan began, Gouenji met with Kidou in the restaurant run by their former coach Hibiki Seigou. When Hibiki asked why they weren't going to play, Gouenji stated that now it was the best time for the team to rely on their own abilities and build up their strength. Kidou explained that they decided to take actions to unmask the Orion Foundation's hidden activities.

In episode 20 Gouenji appeared again with Kidou, watching the press conference with Inazuma Japan after they won the Asia preliminaries. Later they showed up at the Kawaguchiko Sports Center and greeted with the team. Everyone was very excited seeing him and Kazemaru asked if his leg was alright now, what Gouenji confirmed at once. It was revealed that Inazuma Japan was invited for a send-off party held by the World Soccer Association. Later Gouenji was talking with Haizaki about him being an ace striker, who led his team to the victory. He was very proud of Haizaki, who stated that he would get stronger, couldn't wait for the next match standing next to Gouenji as well. During the party Gouenji met with Clario Orvan who stated that he's been preparing to stop his Last Resort, making Gouenji curious to see that. Clario revealed that he didn't approve the actions of the Orion Foundation and wished to clear the soccer from their influence. Although they had a common goal, he was going to play seriously against Japan with all powers they got. Gouenji stated that Inazuma Japan would be number one and then take back soccer. Later he met with Kidou at the deck and they were talking about Gouenji's injury. Kidou figured out that his leg wasn't healed enough to shot with Last Resort. Gouenji smiled, it was something expected from Kidou. He told him not to worry about that because he was going to pass it to someone else in Inazuma Japan. When Kidou stated that it was impossible to inherit that technique, Nosaka appeared saying that three people could do it. Gouenji agreed with him and said it wasn't important whether it was possible or not, but he would make it possible.

In the following episode before the departure to Russia Gouenji met with Endou and Kidou at Steel Tower Plaza. He told that no matter what obstacles were waiting for them, they just had to play their real soccer. Gouenji was shocked when Kidou revealed that he wouldn't go with them and was going to stay to search new members for Inazuma Japan. But later he agreed that they still needed powerful players to strengthen the team and face the world.

During the flight, Gouenji was talking with Kazemaru about Kidou who stayed in Japan. They both wanted Kidou to be with them but Gouenji reminded that he had an important mission to select new members for Inazuma Japan. What's more, trainer Kudou was going to help him. Kazemaru was really excited about new members who would join them and Goeunji was thinking about the day when Kidou came back. Later at the airport, Inazuma Japan met the Spanish team Muteki no Giant. Gouenji once again stated firmly that Japan was not going to lose. He warned Spain that they haven't seen the real power of his technique and Clario was hoping that Gouenji would be healed before their match. Bergamo Regult teased Gouenji saying that Japan always bluffed so easily and Clario calmed him down, stating that everything would turn out during the match. Later when the American team Star Unicorn appeared, everyone assured each other that they were all against the Orion Foundation and would protect the soccer. Gouenji along with Endou, Domon Asuka and Ichinose Kazuya recalled their former plays for Japan. They were joking about Ichinose being more American than Japanese. When later they met with the Russian team, their captain Froy Girikanan revealed that none of them worked for Orion, which shocked everyone. While they were waiting for the bus, Gouenji, Endou, and Kazemaru were recalling their first match with Spanish team Barcelona Orb. It was a day when they were badly defeated but at the same time, it gave them strength and will to further fight. Now they were able to face the world and the strongest opponents.

Later he was talking with Kazemaru about Froy and the Orion Foundation. As he stated Russia was the seat of Orion. When they arrived at the Kazan Soccer Center coach Zhao introduced the team their physical trainer Sekiya Tomoari who was going to help Gouenji recover his leg. It was shown later that Gouenji was practicing with Sekiya in order to rehabilitate. When the team finished the training, Gouenji revealed to Nosaka, Asuto, and Haizaki that they were chosen to inherit his technique Last Resort. Soon after they set about working on it. Although they tried many times, it still wasn't enough effective and their last attempt was interrupted by Fubuki Atsuya who unexpectedly appeared before the team.

In episode 25 during the match with Spain Gouenji was sitting on the bench. He was very surprised when Endou used his new technique Super God Hand against Clario's shot and wondered when he managed to practice it. However, this technique turned out no to be enough effective to block Clario's Diamond Ray. When Spain attacked again, Endou protected the goal after his Super God Hand evolved into Diamond Hand. Gouenji stated that this was just Endou, as usual, what he did went beyond human imagination. When the new strategy double block and triangle passes, invented by Nosaka and Ichihoshi, brought unexpected results, Japan gained the advantage on the field and the team was in possession of the ball all the time. Gouenji praised their idea with a smile. When Endou created Diamond Arm after only a few hints from Nishikage Seiya, Gouenji explained to everyone that it was just Endou Mamoru who had a natural soccer sense. When Luther Fandam and Bergamo Regult shot the third goal, Gouenji stated that Spain was analyzing them and even during the match they were still evolving, according to the data they gathered. Later he watched with tension Asuto, Nosaka and Haizaki shooting with Last Resort. Finally, Japan tied with Spain after Asuto decided to dribble through the field. As Gouenji stated Spain was considered as one of favorite in the FFI tournament so now when Japan managed to tie with them, they had a real chance to win. As for now, they should focus on leaving the group.

During episode 28 Gouenji along with Asuto, Haizaki, Nosaka and their guide Pampietta Scoglio decided to visit Star Unicorn in their campground. It was revealed that America won in the match with Russia 2-1 and Gouenji just like Endou, couldn't wait to see their old friends from Raimon. While they were talking Dylan Keith and Mark Kruger appeared and challenged them in mini-game. As Pampietta stated they were not allowed to use hissatsu techniques and the winner would be whoever who score first. The match ended with Japan's winning. Later to everyone's surprise three helicopters flew with Navy Invader team and their commander Bahart Descom on board. American coach Mack Scride was arrested and Star Unicor was challenged for the representative seat. The match ended quickly and was really brutal. First Michele Jacks was hit by the laser of the goalkeeper's technique and later other player were injured by explosions of mines. Gouenji and the others noticed that all these actions were oriented to intentionally hurt American players. Finally Navy Invader beat Star Unicorn and before they left Bahat declared firmly that they were waiting for the match with Inazuma Japan. Gouenji stated that their intention was to frighten them. When later they came back to the campground, Gouenji decided to tell everyone about American team. He explained that all players from Star Unicorn were in the hospital due to the injuries they got during the match with Navy Invader.

In episode 30 The match with Navy Invader began just like any other. It was almost strange that they were playing so calmly being the members of Orion. However, Gouenji stated that apparently they haven't shown yet what they could do. When Aphrodi initiated his signature technique Heaven's Time Goeunji was speechless at the sight. Later Japan scored the equalizer and Navy Invader used their tactic Jiraigen. Soon after Fudou was hit by the explosion and Gouenji stated that thanks to this tactic Navy Invader beat Star Unicorn earlier. Later Hiura fell into a trap and was pushed directly into the minefield and Sakanoue suffered the same fate. Gouenji shouted with the others his name but in vain, no one could save him. Later America used another dirty trick and with clear wires they blocked Japan's players moves and easily scored the second goal. When Ichinose, Domon and Mark joined Navy Invader, Gouenji watched them with a smile. The match changed and soon true passion to soccer united all players in a fair fight. Finally Japan won when Aphrodi scored the 4th goal. Some time later Inazuma Japan watched the match between Spain and Russia. As it turned out, Spain lost with 6 points, without even scoring a single goal. Goeunji couldn't believe that they were defeated so badly. During the breakfast new member joined Inazuma Japan. It turned out to be Umihara Norika and now the team had 4 goalkeepers. But it wasn't the only surprise that coach prepared for the team. Later Kozoumaru Sasuke appeared before them but most of the players thought it was Gouenji himself, even Hiura praised his new image. When Gouenji approached him, surprised by what he was talking about, everyone noticed they were wrong. However, when coach asked Kozoumaru to say something, he made a mistake and turned to Gouenji. Endou stated that indeed he certainly looked like Gouenji. Later Kozoumaru challenged Saginuma and Atsuya for a mini game, and Gouenji along with Nosaka noticed some strange blue aura around him. Later Kozoumaru told everyone about his training in the mountains and Gouenji's shot Last Resort that inspired him and motivated to fight. He became now more like a Gouenji's clone and Nosaka stated that he has really improved, to which Gouenji agreed. Later he along with Haizaki and Nosaka kept training, trying to master Last Resort.

In episode 46 before the match against Russia started, coach revealed the team that Fudou returned to Japan. Everyone was shocked that he left them without even saying goodbye but when Hiroto told them about his last message, Gouenji stated firmly that his spirit would still stand with them. With these words they felt really motivated. When Kozoumaru used his wild technique Over Cyclone, everyone was amazed, and Gouenji was looking at this with a smile, clearly proud of him. Players stated that this shot resembled Last Resort and Endou said that indeed Kozoumaru could be next Gouenji, to which Gouenji agreed.
