In order to recruit Nakatani, he has to be selected first in the Connection Map. After selecting him, he will be near Nara's stairs and will offer to join the player's party once talked to.

In order to recruit Nakatani, the following requirements are needed:

Item: Cool Membership Card (かっこいい会員証, randomly dropped from Good Ends (グッドエンズ) [N] or Good Mens (グッドメンズ) [R] in Inazuma Town's Station entrance)

Item: Wooden Carved Deer (木彫りのシカ, randomly dropped from Fluffy Animal B (ふわふわアニマルＢ) [N] or Scratchy Animal B (さくさくアニマルＢ) [R] at Nageki no Doukutsu's entrance in the King Arthur's era)
